One of the benefits about being located in the Gateway Arts District is being loved up by incredible local artists, artisans and businesses. It’s not a we scratch your back you scratch ours type deal… it’s linking arms and marching forward with a joint vision for a better creative community.

Back when Art Lives Here held a free artist portrait photoshoot at Art Works Now with photographer Krista Schyler, we met Curtis Culbreath of Ruff’s by Wilfords Upholstery. We met him again at the launch of the artist portrait banners still up around the site of Landex’s Studio 3807. But this was just the beginning of what would prove to be a beautiful partnership.

During our most recent free artist portrait photoshoot at the Art Lives Here Incubator site, Communications Director Michelle Lee felt we needed a special punch of extra flair and color to wake up the shoot and a little pizzaz. We’d already photographed artists with nearly all the eclectic furniture found at neighboring Urban Eats Arts and Music Cafe, and that’s when Michelle remembered Curtis.

Curtis graciously allowed Art Lives Here full access to some of his incredible reupholstered furniture pieces. His support is part of a deep tie to the local community, “I support the cause” because “I’m a part of the community and also want to support local artists such as myself.”

Ruff’s by Wilfords Upholstery is a custom upholstery service, “I’m known for taking on the most difficult jobs” he told us proudly. Curtis specializes in beautiful mid-century modern furniture.

You can find Ruff’s by Wilfords Upholstery at 4503 Buchanan St, Hyattsville, MD 20781. “I have set up a gallery of the 3 rooms where clients can come view, buy or bring their pieces to be redone. I have a large inventory of used furniture to choose from for purchase.”

Why choose Wilfords Upholstery? Curtis tells us, “my service is unique because I offer hands on interaction.” With Curtis you can pick your fabric from fabric books for the most personal of home style expression. He can even come to your home for a private consultation.

Contact Curtis for an appointment by calling 202-406-0392 or emailing him at wilfordsupholstery@gmail.com.

Stay tuned to see some of Curtis’ beautiful pieces as we share some of our favorite photographs from the most recent shoot on our facebook page.
