Acts of Arriving

A series of creative workshops and interactive performances in four locations across Metro DC investigating place, community, and the creative act of making a home.

Do you want to walk, run & play with us?

As many of you know we are reaching the culmination of 18 months of creative process, research, and developing Acts of Arriving. We have already offered 2 workshops, with 2 more workshops ahead, and on October 18th a full day of performances. As part of Acts of Arriving, or in conjunction, we have some exciting opportunities for you to WALK, RUN, or PLAY with us.

Check it out:

WALK: On October 18th we will be performing in four locations across DC – starting in Mount Rainier before we walk to Brookland, then Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park, and finally arriving at The Kennedy Center. Do you want to walk with us? Meet us at any location, watch the performance, and then walk with us to the next location. You can walk from one place to the next, or spend the whole day with us. Just bring some snacks and something to drink. We would love for you to join us!

RUN: In the morning of October 18th Mount Rainier is holding their annual Mount Rainier-Gateway 5K Run. It starts at Joe’s Movement Emporium at 9:30am and end just in time to see our kick-off performance of Acts of Arriving. First run, then see a performance. Great way to start a (hopefully) beautiful fall day! Register HERE.

PLAY: We are offering 2 more Acts of Arriving creative projects, in which we will be offering you a glimpse into our creative process. You will be able to participate in some of the creative exercises we have been using to create and develop Acts of Arriving. This will include visual arts, writing, and, of course, moving. Come and participate as much as you’d like, or hang out a watch as we perform excerpts from the whole work. You can stay for 10 minutes or 2 hours – it is up to you.

RSVP Here.

The next two workshops will be at the following locations (and times):

Saturday, Sept. 27 1-3:30 Joe’s Movement Emporium
3309 Bunker Hill Road, Mount Rainier, MD 20912

Saturday, Oct. 11 5-7:30pm The Kennedy Center
2700 F St NW, Washington, DC 20566

We are looking forward to seeing you at one, or more, of these events.

Come and enjoy Acts of Arriving!

More about Acts of Arriving

Acts of Arriving will engage four communities across DC in workshops examining issues of creating, strengthening and celebrating those communities – which will include Mount Rainier, MD, Brookland, Meridian Hill Park and The Kennedy Center. We will also be presenting a 45-minute participatory performance featuring dance, spoken word, and live music in each location.

We have great partners – Joe’s Movement Emporium, Dance Place, Washington Parks and People, and The Kennedy Center – for this project. They are supporting us in amazing ways – from connecting to diverse audience to financial and technical support. But because this project is so ambiguous, we need our community to rally and support us, so we can bring to fruition this wonderful project and truly engage and celebrate these communities.
