The Brentwood Arts Exchange is bringing “reality” to the gallery. Project America’s Next Top Master Artist is an elimination-style exhibition presented in three rounds modeled on shows like American Idol, Project Runway, and Dancing with the Stars. Artists working in all media who live within 150 miles of Brentwood, MD applied to participate in hopes of winning a solo exhibition and a $500 cash prize. The judges (Jose Dominguez, Executive Director, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center; Tuliza Fleming, Curator, National Museum of African American History and Culture; and Gerald Ross, Director of Exhibitions, Maryland Institute College of Art) have selected the group of artists who will kick of Round 1 and compete for the title of America’s Top Master Artist.

The May 10 opening reception caps off events for the Spring 2014 Gateway Arts District Open Studio Tour. That night and during the exhibition periods, visitors to the gallery will vote to determine which artists will stay and which will go home, eliminating half of the artists between each round. Like they say, “one day you’re in, the next day you’re out.” Artists who remain will bring new artworks to display and face audience voting once again.

If we don’t see you on the tour, we’ll catch you at the after-party!
