Why do Launch Pad? In McKindley-Ward’s own words:
As a teenager growing up in Mount Rainier, I was perhaps overly fortunate to have access to good friends with musical pretensions, equipment, a space to use it in, parent’s who did not complain at 2:00am when we were still playing, and a household of deaf neighbors. Without that no-holds-barred aural laboratory at my disposal, who knows how I would have spent my time.
When I imagine my life that could have been – a passion for music stifled, completely dormant or half-realized – I can’t help but conclude that there are plenty of young people in the area for whom this potentiality is a reality. Maybe theirs is not a passion for music, but maybe it is, and I think I honor the opportunities I’ve had by finding these people and giving access to similar resources. This is where I’m from; this is where I feel most alive, and these are the people that I want to invest in.
Mount Rainier Day will happen rain or shine, so we’ll see you tomorrow no with umbrellas or sunscreen! Looking forward to celebrating with you all!
