Creative Life in the Gateway Arts District

Art Lives Here, in the Gateway Arts District

The Washington Post featured two Gateway Arts District Artists this past week in their paper and magazine. We’re so proud of the Hyattsville’s Northwestern High School choir and Clarke Bedford of Hyattsville, MD.

“Northwestern is the only high school choir selected to represent the United States in the Ihlombe! South African Choral Festival this summer. A dream

come true, right? Except it would cost $100,000 for all of them — along with their music teachers and chaperons — to go.

If every one of you who reads this — and everyone you tell about the choir — gives these kids your Starbucks allowance today, they’ll be on their way to Johannesburg.”

“When Clarke Bedford drives his cars, he inevitably causes a scene. “You’re

trying to pull out, and you’ve got it timed, and someone slows down to look,” says the 65-year-old Hyattsville resident. “You have to remind yourself that the flow of traffic may change.” His 1988 Ford Econoline conversion van won first place in the daily driver category (cars driven regularly) at Houston’s 2012 Art Car Parade.”
