Creative Life in the Gateway Arts District

Proposal Preview: Take a Sneak Peak Inside Art Lives Here

The proposals are starting to roll in for Art Lives Here! With three days left until they’re due, we’re looking forward to more exciting and innovative community engagement ideas from our most vibrant cultural asset: our artists.

Still teetering on the edge of despair as to whether or not you’ll apply? Here’s a sneak peek at some of the exciting proposals we’ll be considering after February 15th:

Visual Conversation: Text and line drawing will inspire the patrons of a lucky business into scintillating conversation about the tensions between evolution and nostalgia, stability vs metamorphosis, and destruction vs revitalization. This project proposal takes the concept of urban graffiti to the next level of troubling and tantalizing questions about the transformation and progression of our community. Pop-Up Sewing Lesson: We are, many of us, familiar with the idea of the pop-up gallery where a space is transformed by artists and arts managers, sometimes overnight, into a gallery space where individuals will often unknowingly walk into an area changed by the presence of art. However this creative proposal proffers instead a pop-up sewing lesson! Strangers become neighbors over sewing projects as they literally, and metaphorically, piece together their experiences into a greater whole. Motivated by this Art Attack Proposal? Brighten the Night: A projected video, animation, and musical performance combines visual and auditory artistic elements into a community-friendly outdoor experience that jump-starts the Screen on the Green concept into Artistic Overdrive. An area often ignored after dark will become illuminated and enlivened with the presence of this piece that crosses multiple artistic disciplines to create an independent arts experience. Please note: The above proposals have not been chosen by Art Lives Here selection committees. Their presence on this blog does not affect the committee’s decision.

When applying for Art Lives Here funding we encourage your creativity to be sparked by these great ideas. Exact replicas of the above proposals will not be considered. Thank you.
